Exfoliating & Hydrating: Joanna Vargas

It's Monday! Today I'm going to talk a bit about Joanna Vargas' Exfoliating Mask and Daily Hydrating Cream. These beautiful products were sent over for me to try and share with you all. They have quickly found their way into my routine!

Starting off with the Exfoliating Mask, which is pictured on the left in a gorgeous golden color. It looks like it's sparkling right? Anyways, this mask has lactic acid, fruit enzymes, Kaolin clay, galactoarabinan, hyaluronic acid and vitamin C. Knowing what's in your products is important so I'm going to break down what all of these ingredients are doing!

  • Lactic Acid: an AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) that helps to hydrate, retexturize and brighten skin

  • Fruit Enzymes: enzymes are found in exfoliants and dissolve as you exfoliate, a gentle scrub

  • Kaolin Clay: best for oily skin as it is known for absorption

  • Galactoarabinan: a hydrating ingredient that reduces hyper-pigmentation and promotes cell healthy renewal

  • Hyaluronic Acid: known as a moisturizing ingredient as well as having antioxidant properties

  • Vitamin C: brightens, soothes and promotes skin restoration

Now that you can see how each ingredient benefits your skin, how do you use it? First you should begin with cleansed skin. After cleansing, tap a bit of water onto your face so it's damp. This will allow the ingredients to sink into your skin more. Apply a thin layer and scrub gently in small circular motions for about 1 minute and leave it on for 5 minutes. Yes that's it! FIVE MINUTES. And that is precisely what got me hooked. I love masks that don't require you to lay around with a stiff face for 20 minutes while you try not to laugh. After the 5 minutes are up you can rinse off with water.

Another way to use this is to just apply it and keep it on for longer. Leave it on for 15 minutes and then rinse off. Even then it won't make your face as stiff as a regular clay mask might. Yay for face flexibility!

Moving on to the Daily Hydrating Cream... This cream is something that I like to use at night since I have oily skin. I find it very thick compared to anything else I have ever tried! It provides great hydration overnight, but it's a little too much for me during the day. This cream has shea butter and cocoa butter as well as galactoarabinan and titanium dioxide and zinc oxide for sun protection (if you were going to wear it during the day).

The first few times I used this I was in love with the texture (well, I still am) but it kept pilling as I applied it to my face. I wasn't sure why because I wasn't layering it with anything that would cause it to pill. One night I tried to layer it with a facial oil, I used the Herbivore Botanicals Lapis oil before applying the cream and it went on smoothly! I'm not even complaining because adding an oil to my night time routine is absolutely no problem for me and my skin thanks me too. I apply it on my face, neck and chest before I sleep so I can wake up with hydrated skin. A winter time must have for sure!
