Avène hydrance aqua-gel

$36.00 USD / 1.6 fl oz

I love a lightweight, gel cream consistency. The Hydrance Aqua-Gel from Avène is like a dream for dehydrated skin. This can be used as a moisturizer (AM or PM) or as an overnight mask depending on how much product you choose to apply! After I apply it, it absorbs almost instantly since it goes from a gel texture to more of a watery texture. This is definitely the type of moisturizer I would wear in the summer going into fall. For the winter I’d probably go for something more rich since my skin always loses so much moisture in cold seasons.

FOREO Luna Play Plus

$39.00 USD

FOREO has entirely changed my cleansing experience! I’ve been using the Luna fofo for a while, which connects to their app through Bluetooth and times your cleansing on each part of your face. I think that’s a pretty cool feature, but I don’t really use it that much and I never have time to cleanse my neck with its timer. The Luna Play Plus is exactly like the fofo but without the semi-confusing Bluetooth feature.

With FOREO I’ve been able to ensure myself that I’m doing a proper and thorough cleanse. It uses T-Sonic pulsations and two types of soft silicone bristles to (extremely) gently exfoliate dead skin cells and cleanse your skin of dirt and oil. When I do my second cleanse with my hands, I often don’t remove every trace of makeup that I try and remove with my first oil/balm cleanse. I’ve noticed that with FOREO, there’s less makeup left on my face cloth after patting my skin dry.

Otherland Stone Fruit Candle

$36.00 USD / 8 oz / 55 hour burn time

I continue to be blown away by the scents of Otherland candles. I was pretty upset when my Rattan candle came to an end haha. Stone Fruit is part of their Beach Club Collection which includes the Fresh Pearl and Matchpoint candles as well. You can buy them solo for $36 each or as a set for $89.

Stone Fruit is supposed to smell like Beach Plum, Peach Skin and Brown Sugar. I don’t have a very sophisticated scent of smell, so it’s a little hard for me to pinpoint notes, but I can assure you it smells nice and sweet! If you’re not already impressed by the candle jar, you’ll definitely be blown away by the scent. Sometimes I sniff the unlit candle just because it smells so good. Same went for Rattan!

Mai’s Picks

Hi friends! I cannot believe that summer is almost over (!!!), however fall is my favorite season and I’m welcoming her with open arms.  This month, I’ve had a ton of luck with products, and I’ve also had a few … not so lucky product experiences - my skin is actually in recovery from a few things that I decided to try, so if you see an increase in hydrating / soothing product features in the days to come, that’s why. It happens to the best of us. That explanation is actually a segue into the first product that I want to mention in my August favorites, a lifesaver, a product that I should have tried a LOT sooner:

Avène Thermal Spring Water

$14.00 USD - $18.50 USD / 5.29 oz - 10.58 oz

This product has been highly raved about for as long as I can remember, and I’ve been meaning to try it since we started this blog! I’m such a sucker for facial mists, I say this ALL the time - but really, for someone with skin on the dryer side, facial mists are a lifesaver for me (especially in the summer months). I had high hopes for this product, and it definitely delivered. Avène claims that this product includes a “unique composition” that is “clinically shown by over 150 studies to calm, soothe, and soften the skin”. This product is wonderful for those with red/sensitive/irritated skin (hello, me), and can also be used post-workout or just as a refresher OR to even set your makeup. I do feel that this mist helps with any redness or irritation I might have going on. It’s so incredibly soothing and just adds life to the skin. I’m so glad that Avène (so kindly) gifted this product to me when they did, because I need it now more than ever, lol.

Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré

$16.00 USD - $28.00 USD / 1.01 fl oz - 2.54 fl oz

I’m not new to this product, but I did forget how much I love it. I first tried this about a year and a half ago, and ended up getting distracted by other products and forgot about this one! I recently re-discovered it though, and was reminded of my deep love. This is a really luxurious, rich moisturizing cream. It’s marketed by Embryolisse as a “3-in-1” product - a primer, moisturizer, and makeup remover. I have to say, I haven’t ever tried this to remove my makeup and I probably won’t - just as a personal preference thing. HOWEVER, I do love this as a primer and moisturizer. It’s soothing on my skin and keeps it plump / hydrated / glowy for a really long time.

*Note: I just read that it can also be used as a reparative mask ??? Definitely may try this in the near future*

YTTP Kombucha + 11% AHA Exfoliation Power Toner

$38.00 USD / 4 oz

I was really excited to get my hands on this once Youth to the People announced this particular product launch. I love my AHA/BHA exfoliants, and YTTP products always agree with my skin. I was right about this one! I love it. I see most of a difference when it comes to skin texture, and that’s one of the issues this product claims to tackle. This is a super gentle product on the skin, and I always experience virtually no irritation whatsoever whenever I reach for this. I use this a few times a week–I’ve been trying not to over exfoliate my skin–and I’ve seen great results so far! The power ingredients in this product: A Kombucha Blend including Kombucha Black Tea Ferment, Tree Bark Ferment, Ginger, Lactic Acid + Glycolic Acid (two of my favorites), Citrus Bioflavonoids, and Lemon Water Extract. This is an A+ product for me!

NūFACE Trinity Facial Toning Device

Okay, I am extremely excited to have my hands on this device. I was really curious about microcurrent devices in general, and NuFACE was the main brand that I was looking at when I was doing my research. They were kind enough to reach out to us last week and offer to send over Trinity, and I was ecstatic. This is an award-winning product that claims to improve facial contour, facial tone, and wrinkle reduction. The entire treatment takes about 5 minutes a day, and includes guided beeps that let you know when to transition into your next facial area. This device also has various attachments that you can purchase that target different areas on the face, such as eyes and lips. NuFACE Trinity uses microcurrents to stimulate the larger surfaces of the face + neck to improve all of the variables mentioned earlier. I’m really excited to see results—they suggest that for the first 60 days, you should use this 5 days/week, and then 2-3 days a week moving forward.

This device also comes with a gel primer that allows the nodes to glide effortlessly across the skin while using. You apply the primer in a mask layer, and follow the included directions! It’s super easy to use, and feels very luxurious. It’s like going to a five-star specialist but in the comfort of your own bed, lol. I’ll follow up in the next few months with my continued results! I have to say, one of the most exciting things I’ve been gifted.
