Sand & Sky: Review

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Sand & Sky, let me catch you up to speed real quick.

Based in Australia - Melbourne, to be exact - Sand & Sky is a 100% cruelty-free skincare brand that sources and manufactures all ingredients / products in Australia. Last year, they launched what became a cult favorite product within the beauty community - their Australian Pink Clay Flash Perfection Exfoliating Treatment. That mask is actually what interested us in the brand in the first place. After hearing a ton of amazing reviews about it (and seeing its really cute bright pink packaging), Dax and I put the exfoliator on our list of products to try.

Luckily, a couple of months ago, Urban Outfitters sent over a box of their best selling beauty products (yes, you can find Sand & Sky at Urban Outfitters!) , and the exfoliator was included! We were so excited and definitely understood the hype once we were able to test it out.

So, what’s so great about this product? What does it do? Well, according to the S&S website, this exfoliator:

  • is a triple-action exfoliating+ flash-mask

  • absorbs oil and refines pores

  • resurfaces, keeps skin matte, and regulates oil production

  • can be a 5 minute in-shower treatment to boost glow

  • removes toxins, pollution, and impurities from deep within the skin

  • uses a physical (bamboo and macadamia seed) + chemical exfoliant (AHAs from the Australian Finger Lime) to smooth and resurface

  • is rich in antioxidants, rosehip, grapeseed, and olive oils to nourish the skin and restore radiance

  • uses witch hazel to tighten pores and perk up the skin without stripping

So, yeah. It’s really good. Also, before I get into the comprehensive review, here’s a spoiler alert: my skin has never felt so smooth, soft, and free of texture as it does after I’ve used Sand & Sky. Seriously. I even made Dax feel my face.

If that wasn’t enough for the powerhouse brand, they also recently released a NEW Porefining Face Mask - a 4-in-1 treatment that also comes with the cutest lil masking brush for easy and hygienic application. The Porefining Face Mask uses the same main ingredient - Australian Pink Clay, but the website’s claims are a little different for this product:

  • deep cleanses, purifies, and tightens pores almost immediately

  • uses organic licorice to stimulate new cell production

  • uses old man’s weed to treat pigmentation

  • tightens + soothes

  • stimulates collagen production

  • uses kakadu plum and mangosteen to leave skin clear and glowing

Somehow S&S were able to create another bombshell of a product. I can’t stop using this one.

If you’re new here, here’s a quick summary of my skin: normal/dry, extremely sensitive/reactive, and blotchy because of rosacea. Luckily, the Sand & Sky website includes instructions on how to use their products based on your skin type - they understand that skincare is not one size fits all!

After testing both the exfoliator and the mask for a couple of weeks now, I’m ready to review!

When I first tried the Porefining Face Mask, my skin felt tingly and it worried me. I thought I was having a bad reaction, so I quickly went to the FAQ section of the S&S site and found that what was happening was completely normal due to the actives within the mask. I then relaxed and left the mask on for the time suggested on the packaging. After removing, which was surprisingly seamless and easy, my skin …. was so nice. Texture free, soft, smooth, and my redness was mild compared to how it was before I applied. I use this one no more than 3 times a week, as directed by S&S since I do have sensitive skin.

I had a similar post-mask experience with the Flash Perfection Exfoliating Treatment, it’s just a bit harder for me to remove, and I’m not normally one to gravitate towards physical exfoliants in the first place. The granules in this product aren’t abrasive or irritating in the slightest, which is great, it’s just a personal preference for me. I prefer to use chemical exfoliants on a regular basis. I do enjoy that this product uses both chemical AND physical exfoliants, though. I love my AHAs. According to S&S, I shouldn’t use this product more than twice a week, and they advise you to not use both exfoliants in the same night.

All in all, I find myself gravitating towards the Porefining Mask on a regular basis - I’m obsessed. I really adore the Flash Perfection Treatment as well, but now that they’ve released the Porefining Mask, I’ve fallen head over heels for it. My skin is in a really great place right now, and I know it has something to do with Sand & Sky. I’ll definitely be repurchasing!
